City Living Pups Can Benefit From Decreased Stress and Anxiety With CBD

New York, New York there’s other city so diverse, exciting and nonstop. While the wide scope and pace of activity is part of the city’s allure, all that activity has a downside too. NYC is at the top of the list among the most stressed-out people. In fact, New Yorkers juggle so many responsibilities during their lives, they are turning to and finding reprieve in prescription medications for their everyday stressors.

Humans are not the only ones stressed out in a metropolis like NYC. Our furry friends also undergo stress from the same environments. In NYC, dogs have limited access to nature and grassy areas. Walks are on the crowded streets and sidewalks, often dodging strollers, food carts and delivery men. Dogs in NYC certainly experience sensory overload from everything that’s going on around them – sirens, cars honking, foot traffic, and constant noise. Many dog owners are moving to outer boroughs of Manhattan, New Jersey and parts north to give their dogs a better quality of life. “I moved to Williamsburg for my dog because it’s a lot less crazy and I live a few blocks from the dog park,” said Lisa, owner of a rescue dog named Pawlly.

Personally, I made this exact move for my dogs 3 years ago, and it’s been the best decision I could’ve made for them. My dogs are a lot happier outside of Manhattan (they still get the view of the city though). Brooklyn is much quieter than Manhattan, but it’s still a far cry from the suburbs where there is plenty of space to run and lots of grassy patches to roll around in. Despite our relocation, Brooklyn has it’s own bustle and my dogs are still triggered by the surrounding noises. I decided to turn to CBD for help, and it’s been life-changing.

So how does CBD work? Like people, pets have an endocannabinoid system in their body. By giving cannabinoids or CBD, it interacts with the endocannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) located in the central and peripheral nervous systems to help maintain balance in the body and keep it in a healthy state. Studies currently suggest that CBD counters anxiety and stress by creating more of the natural mood stabilizer – serotonin, or happy neurons. At this time. aside from anecdotal evidence, there are no controlled clinical studies on the effects of CBD and pets for safety and efficacy.
