Pup Couture – What’s Hot and What’s Not

According to Dara Foster, founder of New York City based PupStyle.com, the preppie look is back for Spring/Summer 2011.  We chatted with Tina Spanevello owner of CollarPlanet.com for her insight into fresh styles and trends for the season in our neck of the woods..

The Rasta collar has been very popular this season featuring the national colors of Jamaica.

This collar is made from 100% organic bamboo, so it will breathe and help your dog stay cool.  Most of CollarPlanet’s merchandise is manufactured by a family business in the Mid-West.

This season’s color forecast calls for hot pink, cool aqua and bright purple in collars, leashes and harnesses.  Tina says that about 50% of her collar sales are leather and 50% jeweled so the balance between form and function is about equal.

Manufacturers are finally responding to demand for stylish accessories in larger sizes and now large breed dogs have choices.   For female Rottweilers and some of the Bully breeds, the bejeweled collar has been a favorite.

This delicious neopolitan collar turned our head with the tiny enameled embellishments of dog bones and hearts.

If your dog loves to ride in the car, you’ll want to consider a pair of Doggles.  Animal Opthamologist  Dr. Noelle McNab highly recommends Doggles to protect your dogs eyes when riding in a convertible or even if he just likes to hang his head out the window.

Doggles come in a variety of sizes from Chihuahua to Great Dane.

With 90 degree days in our not too distant future, you may also want to consider a cooling collar for your pup.

These thermo collars are activated by soaking in water, helping keep your dog cool.  Always, always keep a close eye on your dog in warm weather.

We’ll keep you posted with more fashion news and trends to come to make sure that your dog is the belle of the ball!
